Man Believed Near Death Receives Artificial Heart

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A 39-year-old man believed to have only hours to live received a Jarvik-7 artificial heart and was listed in critical condition Wednesday, a Presbyterian-University Hospital spokeswoman said. The man, whose name was not revealed, received the implant during a five-hour operation Tuesday.
