An El Cajon man was arrested on Interstate 15 and charged with smuggling illegal aliens after U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped his truck and discovered 40 people in a concealed compartment, authorities said.
Of the aliens arrested, said Wayne Kirkpatrick, a Border Patrol supervisory agent, 33 were Mexican citizens. The others were from countries including Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Venezuela. Authorities also discovered a third of a pound of marijuana in the truck, although no one was immediately charged in connection with the seizure.
Arrested at 7:15 a.m. on I-15 at Rancho Penasquitos Road in San Diego was Craig Fogwell, 28, Kirkpatrick said. Agents had followed his truck from a point near the border, he said.
