Austrian President Kurt Waldheim will sue Edgar M. Bronfman after the leader of the World Jewish Congress accused him of being “part and parcel of the Nazi killing machine” in World War II, a spokesman for Waldheim said in Vienna. Waldheim, former U.N. secretary general, served in the German army, and he has been barred from the United States over his alleged role in Nazi persecutions. Bronfman, in Budapest for a meeting of the Jewish group, said of the Waldheim threat to sue: “I don’t take it seriously. I don’t take him as a human being seriously. I take Austria seriously.”
