San Diego High School Baseball : Christian Extends League Lead With 7-5 Win

Craig Johnson’s RBI double in the second inning snapped a 2-2 tie as Christian High School beat San Diego High, 7-5, Friday in a City Central League game at San Diego High.
Christian (8-3, 14-5) increased its lead to 1 1/2 games over second-place San Diego (6-4-1, 14-7) in the league standings.
Christian scored four runs in the fourth inning to lead, 7-2. Pitcher John Okken (7-3), who pitched a complete game, added a two-run double in the fourth.
San Diego had a three-run double by Jose Espinoza’s in the fourth.
Crawford 8, Lincoln 2--A. J. Leighton retired 14 of 15 batters during one stretch and allowed only one earned run en route to the complete-game victory at Crawford. Manny Gagliano’s had a three-run home run and Dooney Ward an RBI double in a four-run first inning for Crawford (4-4-2, 5-11-3). Keith Mitchell hit a solo home run for Lincoln (6-6-1 in league).
Briefly--Hoover 9, St. Augustine 4.
EASTERN LEAGUE Madison 11, Patrick Henry 6--Madison scored six runs in the fourth inning, aided by three Patrick Henry errors at Madison. Matt McKinney and Albert Mendrano each hit two-run doubles and Albert Mendiola added an RBI double.
Serra 11, Point Loma 8--Serra (3-8, 8-12) broke an 8-8 tie with three runs in the sixth, two on a double by Shawn Barrett. Israel Stanley was 3 for 3 with a solo home run to lead Point Loma. Tracy Moran went the distance. Serra had seven errors. Moran allowed five hits and one earned run.
Mira Mesa 6, Morse 5--Eric Sealey singled and then scored on a single by Angelo Carrero in the bottom of the seventh for Mira Mesa at home. Jim Souza added a solo home run in the sixth for Mira Mesa.
CITY WESTERN LEAGUE University City 13, La Jolla 4--All of University City’s starters had hits at La Jolla. Dave Shafer was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the second, for University City (2-9 in league play). Brian Ledwith went the distance for the victory. La Jolla is 5-6 and 12-8-1.
Mission Bay 11, Kearny 6--Scott Vonderliegh was 2 for 4 with a three-run homer and five RBIs to lead Mission Bay (8-3, 15-6) at Kearny (2-9, 4-13-2). Mike McMahon was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Rick Hurley (7-2) got the victory. Scott Welish had a two-run homer for Kearny.
Briefly--Clairemont 14, University of San Diego High School 7.
GROSSMONT LEAGUE Granite Hills 10, Monte Vista 3--Granite Hills (10-1, 18-3) earned its 12th straight victory at Monte Vista. Donnie Carroll (4-0) struck out eight in six innings. George Bishop and Kurt Southworth each had three hits and Brian Giles had two hits, including a solo homer, for three RBIs. Monte Vista is 0-12 in league.
Briefly--Santana 5, Valhalla 4; Helix 15, El Cajon Valley 4; Mount Miguel 10, El Capitan 5.
METRO-SOUTH BAY LEAGUE Castle Park 8, Marian 1--Jose Palos went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and one unearned run for Castle Park (5-3, 16-6) at home. Henry Monreal went 2 for 3 with three RBIs as Castle Park earned its fifth straight league victory.
Bonita Vista 4, Montgomery 0--Randy Abshier pitched a two-hitter to lead Bonita Vista (3-6, 7-14) at Montgomery.
Briefly--Chula Vista 9, Coronado 3; Mar Vista 9, Southwest 2.
