Dwight Gooden, still struggling to gain consistency, allowed nine hits in six innings for the New York Mets’ Class Triple-A Tidewater farm club in an International League game against Maine.
Gooden gave up three runs, only one of them earned, but was helped by four Maine runners being thrown out at home plate. He struck out seven and walked two.
The 1985 National League Cy Young Award winner was making his third minor league appearance since undergoing treatment for cocaine use.
