Garden Grove : Schuller’s 2nd Proposal for Center Clears Hurdle
- Share via
The Rev. Robert Schuller has received preliminary approval from the City Planning Commission to build an $18-million family center next to the Crystal Cathedral.
The City Council will decide the fate of the proposal at its regular meeting June 22.
This is Schuller’s second bid to build a family center next to the church. A plan last year to build it on another site near the church was scrapped when neighbors complained.
Schuller’s latest proposal calls for demolishing an 84-unit, low-income apartment complex to clear land for the project. Most of the tenants, who initially complained, have since been relocated.
The project is proposed for a 26.5-acre parcel and would include a 234-foot glass tower in addition to a five-story Family Life Center. The center would house classrooms, a gymnasium and a school for TV broadcasters.
