1,370 New AIDS Cases in June, Group Reports

GENEVA — The number of AIDS cases reported around the world rose by 1,370 in June to reach a total of 53,121 in 118 countries, the World Health Organization said Friday.
WHO said cases of AIDS reported to its Geneva headquarters are only a fraction of the actual global total, which it estimated at more than 100,000 by last April.
The United States reported 37,019 cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, a rise of 1,039, WHO’s Weekly Epidemiological Record said, citing reports received up till last Wednesday.
