Local News in Brief : 1 Dies, 1 Hurt as Car Hits Pole in Sun Valley

One woman was killed and her passenger critically injured when she lost control of her car and struck a power pole in Sun Valley early Wednesday, police said.
The driver, whose identity is unknown, was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. at the scene of the accident at San Fernando Road and Tuxford Street, Officer Bill Mulvihill said. Police said the woman was driving north on San Fernando Road when she ran off the roadway and struck the pole. The passenger, Natasha Peernock, 18, of Saugus, was in critical condition at Holy Cross Hospital after suffering a head injury and cuts, a hospital spokeswoman said.
