The worst flooding in recent memory has left nearly a million people homeless in both India and neighboring Bangladesh. Thousands were reported marooned in Bangladesh, and officials were trying to rush food, drinking water and medicine to the victims. Bangladesh reported more than 200 deaths. In northeast India, floods have taken 150 lives and damaged roads and railways, virtually cutting off vast areas from the rest of the country. Troops rescued hundreds of villagers from rooftops and trees in the flooded districts.
