A 33-year-old Los Angeles man standing on the shoulder of the Orange Freeway was knocked into a parked car and killed by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said Monday.
Timothy C. Romero, 20, of Claremont, was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of manslaughter and felony drunk driving in the Sunday afternoon incident, California Highway Patrol spokesman Paul Caldwell said.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.
Romero was driving north on California 57 just north of Lambert Road in Brea when he drifted onto the shoulder, hitting the victim and sideswiping a stalled car, Caldwell said.
Caldwell said he did not know whether the stalled car belonged to the victim.
Both Romero and his passenger, Douglas T. Barrile, 20, of Covina, were unhurt, Caldwell said.
The victim was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he died at 6:53 p.m. Sunday, Caldwell said.
