A Soviet official said that specific dates for the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan “will be established” at the next round of Geneva talks on ending the Afghan conflict. Deputy Foreign Minister Igor A. Rogachev said at a news conference in Moscow that preparations are under way for the next U.N.-mediated indirect session between Pakistan and the Soviet-backed Afghan government. He did not say when the next Geneva session will be held. The talks began in 1982.
