4 Hurt After Bomb Derails Lima Train

From Times Wire Services

Four people were seriously injured Tuesday when a bomb derailed a freight train outside Lima hours after a separate blast started a fire at the city’s luxury Sheraton Hotel, police and railway spokesmen said.

A railway spokesman said the train, carrying zinc and silica to Lima’s port of Callao, was derailed by one of five blasts that severed the line to the central town of Huancayo. He added the attack appeared to be the work of Marxist guerrillas.

Meanwhile, police said around 300 guests were evacuated from the 18-story Sheraton Hotel late Monday night when a car bomb left by Marxist guerrillas exploded in the basement parking garage of the 20-story hotel. No one was injured in that explosion.
