Countywide : Education Board Urges Amnesty Law Change

The Orange County Board of Education on Thursday passed a resolution urging the federal government to expand its new immigration law to grant amnesty to all family members, even if just one qualifies.
The board passed the resolution, 3 to 0, with board member Dean Murphy, who said he needed more information, abstaining.
Deputy Supt. of Schools Fred Koch said the law “requires that each applicant for legalization qualify independently for amnesty, thus threatening families with separation and subverting the principle of family unity.”
Board member Elizabeth Parker said, “We have a situation where some children could stay (in the United States) and some couldn’t.”
The Orange County Coalition of Immigrant Rights had urged the board to pass the resolution, which will be sent to the Immigration and Naturalization Service and to Congress.
