The World : Copter Prison Break Fails
Brazilian police said they shot down a private helicopter that was trying to help one or more top drug dealers break out of prison in Rio de Janeiro. The pilot and a second man in the helicopter were killed when the craft crashed inside the 2,000-inmate Frei Caneca prison, police Capt. Antonio Carlos said. Guards shot down the copter as it swooped low over the prison and dropped weapons to a small group of inmates waiting on the roof. The group included Jose Gregorio, a convicted drug dealer reputed to be a kingpin in the drug trade in Rio de Janeiro’s slums, Carlos said. None of the inmates escaped.
