Garden Grove police Tuesday were investigating a fatal accident that occurred Monday when a 6-year-old girl stepped off a street center divider into the path of a truck.
Rebecca Heiner of Garden Grove had been standing with five other children on the center divider of Garden Grove Boulevard, near Yockey Street, waiting to cross the street about 12:50 p.m., Sgt. Paul Prince said.
The girl “pulled free of the grasp of one of the other children” and stepped in front of an eastbound truck, Prince said.
She died at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital about 4:15 p.m.
The driver of the truck was not charged, but an investigation is continuing, Prince said.
