Wife Urges U.S. Hostage’s Release

BEIRUT — The wife of U.S. hostage Joseph J. Cicippio appealed on Saturday, the first anniversary of his abduction in Lebanon, for his release.
“My husband is an ordinary man. He is not a politician or a diplomat,” Ilham Cicippio said in a message to the kidnapers released from her house on the campus of the American University of Beirut.
Addressing her husband and speaking in Arabic, Ilham Cicippio, a Lebanese, said: “One year has already gone, but don’t worry. God is watching everything.”
Cicippio, 56, the university’s chief accountant and deputy comptroller, was abducted from the campus on Sept. 12, 1986.
The Revolutionary Justice Organization, apparently a Shia Muslim group, said it kidnaped Cicippio.
