A 36-year-old man walking on railroad tracks in the Mojave Desert near Palmdale made no effort to move out of the path of an oncoming train and was killed, authorities said. The man, believed to be a transient, was killed when a 64-car Southern Pacific train could not brake in time, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryan Williams said. The victim’s name was not released.
