Volleyball Roundup : UCSD Captures Invitational Title

SAN DIEGO — Janet Hughes had 18 kills and setter Carol Lipson added 57 assists and 21 digs to lead second-ranked UC San Diego to a 15-7, 15-121, 2-15, 14-16, 15-11 victory over Elmhurst Sunday in the championship match of the Mizuno/UCSD Invitational volleyball tournament at UCSD.
Hughes was named the two-day tournament’s most valuable player.
In other college volleyball:
San Diego State 3, Fresno State 1--Angelica Jackson had 23 kills and Jackie Mendez had 22 to lead the San Diego State volleyball team to a 15-13, 15-7, 3-15, 15-13 victory over Fresno State in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. match at SDSU. SDSU is 2-3 in the PCAA, 5-7 overall.
