I gave “Valerie’s Family” a chance without its namesake, but I think they need Valerie Harper for the show to work. I switched channels and watched “Kate & Allie” in its new time period and I’m glad I did. The cast of “Kate & Allie” is dynamic, entertaining and consistent.
