SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego football team, its streak of three straight shutouts having ended in a 23-18 loss to Azusa Pacific last Saturday, will try to extend a different streak when it plays host to Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 tonight.
The Toreros (3-1-1) have not lost to Pomona since 1971. Since then, USD has a 14-0-1 record against the Sagehens. USD won last year, 42-16.
Pomona-Pitzer (1-3) comes into tonight’s game with a three-game losing streak. The Sagehens have scored seven touchdowns this season, and quarterback Ed Irick has passed for five of them. Irick averages 232 yards passing per game.
USD’s defense has nine interceptions but had only one in last week’s loss to Azusa.
