Embattled Arizona Gov. Evan Mecham won a temporary delay of a grand jury investigation of an unreported $350,000 campaign loan while he tries to have the state attorney general removed from the case. The state grand jury investigation had been scheduled to begin Tuesday. However, an Arizona Supreme Court justice stayed the proceeding so the full court may consider Mecham’s argument that Atty. Gen. Bob Corbin has a conflict of interest because he is a legal adviser to the governor and a potential candidate against Mecham if a recall election is held. The Supreme Court is scheduled to consider the action on Nov. 10.
