Britain’s unemployment rate fell to a seasonally adjusted 9.8% in October, dropping below 10% for the first time in six years, the Department of Employment said. Total seasonally adjusted unemployment was estimated at 2.71 million people in October, down from a revised 2.77 million in September and 3.16 million the same period a year ago. Without seasonal adjustment, the unemployment rate in October was 9.9%, down from 10.3% in September and down from 11.7% in October, 1986. The number of unemployed on this basis was 2.75 million people, 2.87 million and 3.24 million, respectively.
