WINTER HIGHLIGHTS : Matadors Win 5th CCAA Title in Volleyball

The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team finished the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. season with a 15-2, 11-15, 15-9, 15-4 home victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday.
The Lady Matadors finished the conference season 12-0, and are 31-6 overall. The Lady Matadors were undefeated in conference for the third consecutive year and claimed their fifth CCAA title in as many seasons.
BOYS SOCCER
Monroe 3, Van Nuys 2--Monroe’s Greg Hartstock scored two goals in the Mid-Valley league match at Van Nuys. Sergio Vargas also scored a goal and Jim Kukucka had two assists for Monroe (5-2-1, 3-1-1).
North Hollywood 1, Verdugo Hills 1--Thai Vo scored for North Hollywood in the East Valley League match.
Chatsworth 5, Canoga 0--Five players--Chris Horn, Rob Kodama, Pethan Tin, Craig Colgan and Joey Bird--scored for the host Chancellors (5-2, 2-1) in a West Valley League win.
Cleveland 2, Taft 1--Headers by Robert Abrams and Wilbur Castro lifted Cleveland (4-2-1, 1-2) over Taft in the West Valley League match at Cleveland. Taft is 6-1, 2-1 in league play.
Birmingham 1, Granada Hills 0--Senior Adolpho Perez scored in the first half of the Mid-Valley League match at Granada Hills.
San Fernando 2, Kennedy 1--Manuel Flores scored midway through the second half as San Fernando (6-2, 3-1) won a Mid-Valley League game at Kennedy.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Moorpark d. Pierce, 15-9, 9-15, 15-4, 5-15, 15-12--Elizabeth Tagg had 15 kills to lead Moorpark (13-4, 15-5 overall) in the Western State Conference match at Pierce.
