How aging factories, foreign competition and cheaper Southern labor have affected the industrial Midwest will be explored on a half-hour program airing at 9:30 tonight on KNBC-TV Channel 4.
NBC’s John Chancellor and Bob McBride of WKYC-TV in Cleveland anchor the report, which is titled “The American Promise: The Rustbelt Blues.” Youngstown, Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo are now part of a so-called “rustbelt,” an area that lost more than 1 million blue collar jobs between 1981-86.
The program is the fifth in a series of prime-time specials developed and broadcast by the NBC Television Stations Division.
