Lew E. Coppersmith, president of L. E. Coppersmith Inc. and Target Airfreight Inc., has been elected to the board of CalFed Inc. He succeeds James D. Hodgson, former U.S. ambassador to Japan, who retired. CalFed is a Los Angeles-based financial services holding company whose principal subsidiary is California Federal Savings and Loan Assn.
