Two Palestinians Call for U.S.-Led Peacekeeping Force

WASHINGTON — Two Palestinian leaders Wednesday urged Secretary of State George P. Shultz to create a U.S.-led multinational peace force to protect Palestinians from Israeli troops in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
“Our people are in urgent need of immediate international protection from the brutality of Israel’s military authorities,” Hanna Siniora, editor of an Arabic-language Jerusalem newspaper, and Fayez abu Rahme, president of the Gaza Bar Assn., said in a letter they delivered to Shultz during a 20-minute meeting in his office.
An Administration official said the peace force idea has no chance of winning U.S. approval.
Earlier Wednesday, Shultz met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who is scheduled to see President Reagan today.
