TACOMA, Wash. — Penny Toler, a 5-foot 8-inch junior guard from Cal State Long Beach, was named to the Kodak All-American women’s basketball team, which was announced here Thursday.
Toler, who is averaging 22.6 points for the 49ers, said she has been too busy preparing for tonight’s semifinal game against Auburn to tell her family about the honor.
“I forgot, honest,” Toler said. “I guess they’ll find out.”
It is the first time that Toler has been selected to an All-American team.
“I’m very proud of Penny,” Long Beach Coach Joan Bonvicini said. “It’s no coincidence that we’ve gone to the Final Four in the two years that Penny has been with us.”
Also named to the team were Tracey Hall of Ohio State, Donna Holt of Virginia, Vickie Orr of Auburn, Teresa Weatherspoon of Louisiana Tech, Sue Wicks of Rutgers, Michelle Edwards of Iowa, Bridgette Gordon of Tennessee, Suzie McConnell of Penn State and Beverly Williams of Texas.
Cathy Gooden of Cal Poly Pomona was named to the Division II All-American team.
