Whittaker Corp. announced that it has acquired the lithium thionyl chloride battery business of GTE Corp. The business will be operated as part of the Whittaker-Yardney Power Systems division, a leading manufacturer of specialty batteries for government, industrial and commercial markets. Lithium thionyl chloride batteries combine the ability to withstand temperature extremes with high energy density and long life. The batteries are sold in the United States and abroad to military and industrial users. The price was not disclosed.
