Local News in Brief : San Juan Capistrano : Prop. 75 Passage Means 2 Schools Can Be Built
- Share via
Capistrano Unified School District officials said Tuesday that the passage of Proposition 75 by California voters on June 7 will permit the building of two new elementary schools in the district.
The two scheduled for construction are George White Elementary, to be built in Laguna Heights, and Philip J. Reilly Elementary, to be built in Mission Viejo.
Proposition 75 authorizes an $800-million bond issue to pay for new school construction and costs of renovating some older schools in the state. State officials had noted before the passage of Proposition 75 that the state’s existing fund for school construction had been all but depleted. Passage of the $800-million bond issue enables authorized projects, including the two proposed schools in Capistrano Unified, to be built as scheduled.
“While the district has numerous other school facility needs, the construction of the White and Reilly schools will help to alleviate the tremendous growth in student enrollment in the Laguna Niguel and Mission Viejo communities,” said Jacqueline Cerra, spokeswoman for the Capistrano Unified School District.
