Ed Asner has agreed to pay more than $2,100 in monthly support to the mother of a child he admitted in Los Angeles Superior Court is his, according to a spokesman for Ronald A. Supancic, the attorney for the woman’s ex-husband. In the court-assisted settlement, Asner will pay $2,000 for expenses and $100 for medical insurance monthly to support Charles Edward Vogelman, who lives with his mother, Carol Jean Vogelman. Asner became involved in the court action when Vogelman’s ex-husband, David Stone, alleged his $3,000 monthly alimony payments were being used to support a child he did not father. “We thought it was a little out of balance that Stone (a recent Oscar nominee for sound editing) was paying such a high monthly sum when a man of Mr. Asner’s stature had become involved with Ms. Vogelman and they had conceived a child together,” Supancic said in a statement. Asner and his attorneys were unavailable for comment Thursday.
