A plan for a state supported buyout of the Chicago White Sox was narrowly approved in the Illinois Senate as hopes faded for passage of another bill aimed at keeping the team from moving to Florida.
The plan, approved on a 36-16 vote, would allow the state agency building a new White Sox stadium to sell stock to the public, raising about $60 million to buy the team.
