When Law Clerks Make $1,100 a Week, Something Is Truly Amiss in This World

There is something wrong with a society that (over)pays the brightest law students $1,100 a week as summer clerks while equally talented Ph.D. candidates from the same major universities must work for peanuts.
Can’t these firms use some of their public service funds to hire the brightest doctoral candidates in non-legal fields to do a variety of technical research and writing assignments that inevitably arise at large law offices? Wouldn’t that show a commitment to education that is now absent in the legal profession?
When that happens, as it ought to, then you really will have something to write about.
