Bo Jackson Returns Early From Injury, Helps Royals Win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Outfielder Bo Jackson of the Kansas City Royals, placed on the disabled list last month with a hamstring tear, was activated Saturday and went 1 for 3 and drove in a run as the designated hitter in Kansas City’s 3-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Jackson was injured May 31 while beating out an infield hit in a game at Cleveland.

Jackson was batting .309 with 9 homers and 30 RBIs when he was injured.

He was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 1, but the Royals did not expect him to return until after the All-Star break in mid-July.

In a test on a Cybex machine, Jackson’s left leg was determined to have more than 95% of the strength of his right leg.

The Red Sox’s only run came in the fifth inning when center fielder Willie Wilson missed a diving catch on Wade Boggs’ line drive, which went for an inside-the-park home run. Boggs had three hits to raise his major league-leading average to .353.
