Gold-Medal Team Includes Area Players

The Padres, a team including Orange County high school baseball players, defeated a team from the Los Angeles area to win the gold medal in the California State Games Sunday at San Diego State University.
The Padres, with players from Orange and San Diego counties, defeated the Dodgers, 4-1. They were led by Jim Austin of Mater Dei, who was 2 for 3 Sunday. He was 8 for 14 during the six-team tournament. Other county players on the winning team were Jason Moler and Roger Weems of Esperanza and Tony Pena of Mater Dei.
Dave Demarest of La Quinta and Bob Ickes of Mater Dei were coaches.
