Rabbit, Dog, Python to Visit Tykes at Kidspace Museum

Staff members from the Pasadena Humane Society plan to bring some of their more unflappable animals to the Kidspace Museum, 390 S. El Molino Ave., today as part of their educational outreach program. At 1 p.m., they will talk on “How to Care for Pets at Home,” using Cadbury the rabbit, Trina the dachshund and Ms. E the African rock python as visual aids. Children will have a chance to pet the animals.

Children and their parents will learn how to select a pet by determining how much time the family will devote to an animal, as well as space availability. Admission: adults, $2.50; seniors older than 65, $2.25; 2 and younger, free. Museum hours: noon-4:30 p.m. Information: (818) 449-9143.

For families who think they may like to adopt a pet, the Humane Society is a few blocks from the museum, at 361 S. Raymond Ave. More than 120 dogs and about 20 cats are available for adoption. Occasionally, guinea pigs, hamsters, parrots, rabbits, ducks and chickens are available too. The staff makes an effort to see that the animals go to appropriate homes. Adoption fees are $50 for dogs, $20 for cats, but the cost is refundable after the animal has been spayed or neutered. Open 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday.
