Bank regulators in Texas closed the First Capitol Bank of West Columbia, located about 60 miles south of Houston, bringing to 43 the number of banks in the state that have failed this year. There have been 93 bank failures nationally. Texas Banking Commissioner Kenneth Littlefield said in Austin that a recent examination by the Department of Banking revealed loan and related losses of more than $4 million, rendering the bank insolvent by about $1.7 million. The FDIC approved the transfer of the bank’s insured deposits to First Bank of Edna, Tex.
