VIDEO CHARTS : Michael Douglas Dramas Still Strong

Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

That parade of Michael Douglas dramas at the top of the Billboard magazine rental chart rolls on. “Wall Street,” for which performance Douglas won his best-actor Oscar, ascended to No. 1, toppling “Fatal Attraction,” in which he co-starred, to No. 3. At almost any other time, “Full Metal Jacket” (No. 2) might have enjoyed a long reign as the No. 1 rental, but it’s been a continual also-ran, thanks to the Douglas duo. That new pair of Dennis Quaid thrillers has cracked the Top 10--”D.O.A.” at No. 9 and “Suspect” at No. 10. The didn’t-do-so-well category: “Rent-a-Cop,” the Burt Reynolds movie, dropped off the rental Top 40, as did “Housekeeping,” starring Christine Lahti, after a brief run.

Rental Weeks Sales Top Ranking On Rental Chart Rentals Last Week Chart Ranking 1. “Wall Street” 2 4 38 (CBS-Fox) 2. “Full Metal Jacket” 3 6 -- (Warner Home Video) 3. “Fatal Attraction” 1 9 27 (Paramount) 4. “Eddie Murphy Raw” 12 3 25 (Paramount) 5. “Overboard” 6 8 -- (CBS-Fox) * “Good Morning, Vietnam” -- 1 18 (Touchstone Home Video)

* “Good Morning, Vietnam” was a box-office bonanza for Disney/Touchstone because it’s a great vehicle for Robin Williams’ brand of manic comedy. Though priced at $29.95 to appeal to buyers, it looks like it will be the hot new item in the rental market for the next few weeks--at least until “Moonstruck” is unleashed at the end of the month.
