Hill Continues to Recruit Well at Cal Lutheran

Times Staff Writer

Rich Hill is stocking the cupboard.

The second-year Cal Lutheran baseball coach found his team depleted by injuries last season and has vowed not to have a repeat.

So he has gone about signing players nearly every week this summer. The Kingsmen signed three more players to letters of intent and received a verbal commitment from another last week.

Devon Schutzler, a left-handed pitcher and first baseman from Monterey Peninsula College, heads the list of recruits. Schutzler was 7-4 last season and batted .330.

The Kingsmen also signed outfielder Dino Saigh, who batted .345 last season at Yavapai College (Ariz.), and Leonard Matsumoto, a catcher from Santa Monica College who will play various infield positions.

Mike Clark, a right-handed pitcher from Pierce, made a verbal commitment.

Three players from Ventura County are included among six recruits who have signed letters of intent to play softball at Cal Lutheran.

Michelle Campos, an outfielder from Fillmore High; Christy Teffeteller, a shortstop from Simi Valley Lutheran High; and Wendy Tabakman, a transfer from Moorpark College, are the local recruits.
