Santa Monica : Dining-Dance Club Approved

The Santa Monica Planning Commission last week approved permits for a 328-seat restaurant and dance-comedy club on Santa Monica Boulevard near the Third Street Promenade, according to associate planner Amanda R. Schachter.
Improv West Inc.’s proposal for a club at 317 Santa Monica Blvd., beneath Tony Roma’s restaurant, features an 84-seat bar area and dance floor and a 244-seat entertainment room.
The planning staff report concluded that the proposed comedy club will help Santa Monica revitalize its downtown and the Third Street Promenade, the city’s aging open-air mall, by attracting customers and increasing pedestrian activity.
The commission approved development review and conditional-use permits providing that the owners meet a list of conditions, including installing a sprinkler system, limiting use of the bar to patrons waiting for meal service, and prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption outside the premises.
