Springsteen--Born to Vote

Bruce Springsteen has never endorsed a presidential candidate--both Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale made clumsy attempts to associate themselves with him four years ago--but Springsteen may be getting close to linking up with Michael Dukakis.
Dukakis celeb liaison Hackey Kassler tells us that a key member of Springsteen’s inner circle, who is also an ardent Dukakis supporter, has met with reps of the Democratic candidate to discuss “how to get Springsteen involved” in the campaign after he returns from the worldwide Amnesty International Tour, which closed last night in Buenos Aires. Earlier last week in Sao Paulo, the singer took an anti-George Bush stance while denouncing the U.S. government for supporting Third World dictators.
Kassler said Dukakis would be happy to accept Springsteen’s endorsement if it was offered because “Springsteen has a special place with a lot of people.”
Calls to Springsteen’s rep were not returned at press time.
