Local News in Brief : Councilman Has Heart Surgery
- Share via
Hawthorne Councilman David M. York, 51, is recuperating from quadruple heart bypass surgery at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, hospital officials said Wednesday.
York was operated on Friday and is “progressing normally” and is “doing very well,” a hospital spokeswoman said. He had received a medical disability retirement from the Police Department in 1982 because of heart problems.
York, a member of the council since 1983, was hospitalized after tests last week showed “significant blockage” that necessitated surgery, said city spokesman Tom Quintana. York is expected to be released from the hospital in a week or two, Quintana said, but is not yet allowed to receive phone calls or visitors.
