Amoco Corp.’s third-quarter profit jumped 34% from last year to $552 million. Revenue inched up 2% to $5.9 billion. The Chicago crude oil, chemical and plastics firm attributed the results to strong performance in its refining, marketing, transportation and chemicals lines. Schlumberger Ltd.’s third-quarter net income skyrocketed to $112 million from $2 million a year ago. The year-ago quarter included an unusual gain of $69 million on the sale of the investment in Compagnie Luxembourgeoise de Telediffusion. The New York oil services firm also said it included a $70-million award from the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal and a $220-million loss on the discontinued operations of Fairchild Semiconductor.
