McCarthy/Pacific, an Irvine construction firm, was selected to develop an 8-acre, city-owned tract in the Little Tokyo district in Los Angeles.
McCarthy/Pacific joins a joint venture team of Barker-Patrinely Group of San Francisco and Ohbayashi America Inc. and Taira Services Inc. of Los Angeles on the $200-million project.
The group will build more than 300 housing units, 80,000 square feet of retail space, a hotel and conference center, space for the Japanese American National Museum and a major office tower to be occupied by the city of Los Angeles.
McCarthy/Pacific will be managing general contractor for the project, which starts in 1990.
