Prep Roundup : Foothill Upsets Dana Hills, 10-8, in 3-A Tennis Playoffs

Foothill High School’s doubles team of Karen Falconer and Shayne Hemsley won 3 sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4, to help Foothill to a 10-8 upset of fourth-seeded Dana Hills in a second-round 3-A tennis playoff match Saturday at Foothill. Foothill advances to the quarterfinals Tuesday.
In another 3-A second-round match:
Laguna Hills 13, Riverside Poly 5--Laguna Hills No. 1 singles tennis player Jenny Marques improved her unbeaten streak to 54-0, winning 3 sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, in the Hawks’ victory over Riverside Poly (16-4). Brook Fleming, playing at No. 2 singles for Laguna Hills (18-2), won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, to improve her record to 59-1.
In 2-A matches:
Katella 12, Hemet 6--No. 2 singles Alishia Michaels of Katella won 3 sets, 7-6, 6-1, 6-3, to lead Katella. The Knights’ No. 3 doubles team of Heather Hargrave and Phough Nguyen swept its sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.
Fullerton 9, Palm Desert 9--The two teams tied, but Fullerton advances to the quarterfinals because it won more games 79-72. No. 1 singles Loraine Lau swept her sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Fullerton (17-2).
In Small Schools second-round girls’ volleyball:
Liberty Christian 3, Desert Christian 0--Sharon Crouch had 10 kills and Amy Coffman added 6 to lead Liberty Christian to a 15-12, 15-8, 15-5 victory over Desert Christian (17-3). Liberty Christian (13-4, 7-1) advances to the quarterfinals Tuesday.
