College Football : Southeastern Conference Roundup : LSU Earns Share of Title by Beating Mississippi St.

Greg Jackson returned an interception 100 yards and No. 12 Louisiana State clinched a share of the Southeastern Conference title by defeating Mississippi State, 20-3, Saturday at Starkville, Miss.
“Nobody thought we had a chance to win this conference,” LSU Coach Mike Archer said. “I think this is a credit to our coaching staff and our players.”
LSU, 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the SEC, is tied for first in the conference with ninth-ranked Auburn, which beat No. 17 Georgia, 20-10. The SEC winner will play in the Sugar Bowl.
Victor Jones’ 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was all the scoring the needed by the Tigers.
Mississippi State fell to 1-8 and 0-6.
Alabama 17, SW Louisiana 0-- Kermit Kendrick intercepted 2 passes and Alabama’s defense posted its second shutout of the season as the 18th-ranked Crimson Tide beat Southwestern Louisiana at Birmingham, Ala.
Kendrick’s interceptions, which give him 5 for the season, set up a touchdown and a field goal.
Alabama improved to 7-2, while the Rajin’ Cajuns dropped to 6-4 with their second straight loss.
Florida 24, Kentucky 19--Sophomore Emmitt Smith ran for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns as Florida snapped a 4-game losing streak by beating Kentucky at Lexington, Ky.
Florida improved its record to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the SEC.
Quarterback Glenn Fohr, passed for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Kentucky (5-5, 2-4).
Tennessee 20, Mississippi 12-- Quarterback Jeff Francis engineered 2 fourth-quarter touchdown drives as Tennessee came from behind to beat Mississippi at Oxford, Miss.
Greg Amsler scored from 4 yards out with 10:37 remaining to put Tennessee ahead, 13-12, and Vince Moore scored on a 7-yard run with 4:52 left to seal the victory.
Tennessee is 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the SEC. Mississippi fell to 4-6 and 2-4.
