College Roundup : Warde Leads UCI to Water Polo Win

Tom Warde scored 5 goals to lead UC Irvine to a 16-7 victory over Pepperdine Sunday in a Big West Conference water polo match at Pepperdine.
The Anteaters (16-13 overall, 7-2 in the conference) led, 5-3, after the first quarter, but outscored the Waves, 4-1, in the second quarter to take a 9-4 lead. Irvine went on a 7-2 second-half run to take a 16-6 lead with 3 minutes 39 seconds left in the match.
Warde has scored 94 goals this season.
Tony Bell and Skylar Putman each scored 4 goals for the Anteaters. Chris Hakim scored 3 goals for Pepperdine (8-16, 3-9).
Goalie Andy Nott made 11 saves for Irvine.
In the Rolex Southern California tennis championships:
Mark Kaplan and Richard Lubner of UC Irvine defeated Grant Saacks and David Wells-Roth, 7-5, 6-4, to win the doubles championship at Irvine.
Kaplan and Lubner reached the final by defeating Mark Quinney and Billy Barber of UCLA, 6-1, 6-1, Sunday. Saacks and Wells-Roth defeated Trevor Kronemann and Shige Kanroji of Irvine, 7-5, 7-6, in the other semifinal.
In the singles final, Saacks defeated Pat Crow of Cal State Long Beach, 6-4, 6-3.
