Trimedyne Inc. reported that net income rose to a record $5.3 million for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, contrasted with the $494,000 reported a year ago. Sales more than doubled, to $31.2 million from $12.3 million. Net income for the fourth quarter increased to $1.6 million, contrasted with income of $175,000 for the comparable period a year ago. Sales for the quarter rose 150%, to $10.6 million from $4.2 million. Howard K. Cooper, president and chief executive officer of the Santa Ana-based company that makes laser catheters to treat blocked arteries, said the results reflect growing market penetration and expanding product acceptance.
