La Puente : Tree-Planting Planned
Early next year, the city hopes to plant 100 to 150 young crape myrtle trees in city-owned parkways in front of residences.
After the city maintains the trees for 30 to 90 days, homeowners will be asked to water the trees. But resident participation in the program is optional.
The planting program is part of a 3-year plan to refurbish curbs, sidewalks and gutters cracked by the roots of mature trees. Most older trees have been removed and the damage repaired, according to Don Allen, assistant city manager.
