Louis Sherwood, president of Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., New Jersey, has resigned to take over an 800-store grocery store chain in Britain. Sherwood will become chairman and chief executive of Gateway Supermarkets. James Wood, chairman and chief executive of A&P;, will assume Sherwood’s title and responsibilities.
