Flamboyant restaurateur Peter Langan, unconscious since being burned in a fire at his home in October, died Wednesday night, officials at St. Andrew’s Hospital at Billericay said.

He was 47.

Irish-born Langan, whose Langan’s Brasserie in London’s West End was a favorite withshow business personalities, co-owned the restaurant with actor Michael Caine and chef Richard Shepherd. He also owned a recently opened restaurant in Century City.

Langan was burned when a fire broke out at 4 a.m. Oct. 21 at his home at Alphamstone, 50 miles northeast of London, after what police called a serious domestic incident with his wife, Susan, 46. News reports at the time said Susan Langan, who broke her ankle jumping from a balcony, had told Langan she wanted to leave him.

The British domestic news agency Press Association said police believe Langan may have started the fire deliberately after an argument with his wife.

Langan, an admitted former hard drinker, was remembered at Langan’s Brasserie for stunts such as crawling across the floor and biting customers’ ankles and putting out a fire in the kitchen with vintage champagne.
